Company Overview
Located a short distance north of Boston, CAST is a nonprofit education research and development organization that works to expand learning opportunities for all individuals through Universal Design for Learning. As a nonprofit, we know that every employee contributes to our international reputation as a leader in education research, technology, and universal design for learning. Teamwork, risk-taking, and collaborative thinking are essential to the way we work. Most of all, our mission—to improve learning experiences and opportunities for all individuals—motivates not only what we do but how we do it.
Company History
Founded in 1984, CAST is a nonprofit education innovation organization that works to expand learning opportunities for all individuals through Universal Design for Learning (UDL). UDL is a framework for designing learning environments that are flexible and responsive for individual learning differences. UDL guides the use and design of new technologies combined with understanding of learning from cognitive and learning sciences to create better educational experiences for at risk learners. CAST began its work with students with disabilities in formal schooling. Today, UDL frames all of CAST’s research and development. CAST researchers have tested and refined the UDL principles, priorities, and vision and expanded to all learners in both formal and informal environments. Through strategic collaborations, CAST is seeding the field of curriculum planning, software development, state and national policy, teacher preparation and support, and education research with UDL-based solutions.
